Undergraduate Awards and Scholarships, 2009
Through the generosity of private donors, the Department of Chemistry is able to provide several scholarships and awards each year to undergraduates for outstanding scholastic achievements. An annual Chemistry Department Awards Presentation and Honors Reception is held at the end of the spring semester. A representative list of the various scholarships and awards which are presented at this event are listed below.

Alpha Chi Sigma Award
An award is made to a graduating senior in chemistry and a graduating
senior in chemical engineering for outstanding scholastic achievement
through four years of study in their chosen field of chemistry and chemical
engineering. Each student's name is engraved on a special plaque.

American Institute of Chemists Award
A national award presented to a graduating senior who has achieved an
outstanding record as a chemistry major.

The Jacob Kleinberg Award
This award will be presented to an undergraduate major in the Department
who has made outstanding progress in research in chemistry prior to the
end of his or her Junior (third undergraduate) year.

The Keith and Dona Darlington Award
This award will be presented to a student based on their undergraduate
research.

This award is give to a Chem major with merit.

The Ralph E. & Esther Weik Badgley Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding female undergraduate
student based on need or achievement.

The Clark E. Bricker Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to a chemistry major completing his or
her second year at the University of Kansas (typically a student planning
to graduate in two more years) who is planning a career in chemistry or
a career that involves primarily chemical research. The awardee will
be selected on the basis of academic record, ambition, and contributions
to the Chemistry Department and the University.

The Clark E. and Ann Bricker Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to a second-year chemistry major for
outstanding performance.
Past Recipients
The Fassnacht Scholarship (for Juniors or Seniors)
This scholarship will be awarded to an advanced undergraduate student
with a declared major in chemistry. The awardee will be selected
on the basis of academic record, commitment to a career in the chemical
sciences, and participation in research, teaching and/or service to the
Chemistry Department. (This scholarship is not available for Spring
graduating seniors.)

This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student in Chemistry based
on merit and need.

This scholarship will be awarded to a superior minority student at the
undergraduate or graduate level who have chosen Chemistry as a major.

This award will be presented each year to undergraduates who demonstrate
dedication to exemplary scholarship and research in Analytical Chemistry.

Leonard V. Sorg Scholarship (for Freshmen)
This scholarship will be awarded to a student completing his or her first
year at the University of Kansas (typically planning to graduate in three
more years) and who is planning a career in the field of chemistry. The
