REU Program

Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)

REU Project Discussion

For the past twenty-two years the Chemistry Department at the University of Kansas has been a REU site for the National Science Foundation sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates program. The program provides initial research experiences for 10-12 students/year in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment. Most participants are recruited from primarily undergraduate institutions with substantially limited or no research infrastructures.

Key components of this program are career enhancement and educational activities that encourage and prepare the students for graduate studies and careers in emerging and interdisciplinary areas of the chemical sciences. Close interactions between the participants and their faculty, graduate student, and postdoctoral mentors provide guidance and feedback throughout the program and beyond. In addition, the students develop important skills for the oral and written presentation of their research accomplishments. Follow this link for a 2010 Program Announcement in Acrobat format.

This year's program will start on Wednesday,June 2, 2010 and run through Tuesday, August 3, 2010. Each participant receives a competitive stipend plus full room and board and a travel allowance, a total value of approximately $7,100.

The University of Kansas is an equal opportunity institution.
Minorities, women and students with disabilities  are encouraged to apply.
