Mapping Drives, Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 10

You must be connected to the internet to map to the KU Servers.

You will see a line labeled “Drive” and a second line “Folder” with a check box for “reconnect at logon” and a check box for “connect using different credentials".

Fill out the login boxes:

  • The “Drive” line is arbitrary. This line allows you to select and available drive letter to use for this operation. It will probably display something like G: or F:, and you really do not need to make any modifications here. However, if you would like to use the same letters as the KU Servers use, click the down arrow and select "N" when mapping your personal drive, and "G" when mapping your group drive. If these letters are not available, use a different letter.
  • The “Folder” line is where you will enter the URL of the server share to which you will connect. It should be blank and you will need to either cut and paste or type \\resfs.home.ku.edu\groups\CHEM\General
  • This will map the Chemistry group shared drives and from within this location you can browse to any group you have access.
  • Leave "Reconnect at logon" unchecked.
  • Click on "different username."  This will allow you to enter your KU online ID and password.

Click “Finish”.

In the login box, type in "home\username" where the username is your KU online ID.

Type in your KU password.

Click "OK"

You should be connected to the Chemistry KU Shares.  You can now browse to your group drive(s).

To make mapping this drive easier in the future, you can create a link on your desktop:

  • Open Computer, and double click on the drive you just mapped.
  • The address of the drive will appear in the address box at the top.
  • Click and drag the drive icon to the left of the address to your desktop.  This will create a shortcut on your desktop.
  • When you want to map the drive, start KU Anywhere, right click the shortcut, and select "open folder location".
