Area of Study:

My project involves the development of tissue-targeted metabonomics. Metabonomics involves monitoring simultaneous changes in the levels of many endogenous small molecules in response to a perturbation like a disease or administered drug. By identifying how these perturbations change metabolic pathways, we can better understand disease or drug action or toxicity. Currently, there are few options to conduct metabonomics studies in specific tissues. I am accomplishing this using microdialysis sampling with NMR detection. We currently are applying this technique to study oxidative stress in the liver, as induced by the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin.

Personal Interests:

I spend most of my free time with my husband, Shane, who is also a chemistry graduate student here. We are both very close to our families, who live nearby. I am involved in women’s Bible study and worship at our church (Christ Community). I also like to watch movies, read, walk around downtown, eat out, and of course, watch KU basketball! Shane and I have two cats, Allie and Libby, who keep us on our toes.
