Area of Study:

My current area of study is focused on the development of a novel dual electrode capillary electrophoresis technique for the detection of small biologically relevant molecules. Specifically, I am interested in the detection of low molecular weight thiols which act as biomarkers for oxidative damage as a result of ischemia-reperfusion. By using microdialysis sampling we propose to gain both temporal and spatial resolution, which cannot be obtained using traditional methods of analysis, such as tissue or biofluid sampling. In addition, we also are interested in monitoring exogenous antioxidants, such as Co-enzyme Q10 using microdialysis to further understand the role of antioxidants in the prevention of oxidative damage due to ischemia-reperfusion.

Personal Interests:

I’m originally from Kansas, however I have spent the last 10 years living in Colorado, so naturally I have developed an interest in several outdoor activities. In particular, I enjoy skiing, snowboarding, hiking, white water rafting and camping. However, since moving back to Kansas most of my free time is spent with friends watching KU football and basketball, going shopping, learning to cook (something besides pasta) or going to the theatre with my Dad.
