Departmental Summer Support
Many first year graduate students have been promised Summer Research
Fellowships. Those who meet the minimum academic requirements of the Graduate
School (B average in course work), are making satisfactory progress in their
degree program, and have selected research directors by December 15 will
automatically receive the fellowship or will be eligible for an equivalent
Research Assistantship.
Advanced graduate students must apply for a summer research fellowship.
Application forms will be distributed in the Spring semester. If funds become
scarce and the Department cannot support all applicants, preference will be
given to students who are finishing within a year's time. A student in the
graduate program is eligible for consideration for 5 years of summer subsidy
(from any source or combination of sources) from the time he or she begins
graduate work at KU, after which a petition outlining special circumstances and
endorsed by the Research Director must be approved by the Graduate Affairs
Committee to extend the period of summer subsidy.
