Applying to the KU Chemistry Department Graduate Program

Application Process

Step 1: Complete the Graduate Inquiry Form for the chemistry department either as a domestic student at:


or as an international student at:


This inquiry alerts the Department that you have visited our website and are considering applying to our graduate program. Completion of this form will direct you to the link for Step 2.

Step 2: Complete the formal on-line application form at:

Once you have completed this form, the Department will be able to access the website and download your application.

Step 3: Prepare and submit all supporting documents to the Department of Chemistry (list of supporting documents and address are listed below):

Supporting documents:

  • One original transcript (required) by mail to the address below. An original transcript is required from each University or college where you earned a degree.
  • Three letters of recommendation (required) Note: recommendations may be sent electronically to slpayne@ku.edu or by mail to the address below.
  • GRE scores (highly recommended but not required) by mail to the address below.
  • Personal Statement and Resume (recommended but not required).
  • International students must also submit English proficiency scores (see below). Depending upon the exam you have taken (or are scheduled to take), the minimum score required for admission into the Graduate School is listed in the table below:
